LRT
[edit]The Light Rail was branded as "LRT" (abbreviation of Light Rail Transit) when it came into operation, and was later rebranded as "KCR Light Rail" when the "KCR (British Section)" was rebranded as "KCR East Rail". The logo of LRT which is in orange in colour is no longer in use. However, in Hong Kong laws, it remains "North-west Railway" over the time. Merger
[edit]I have executed a merger (and redirect) from the individual Light rail station articles following the discussion at AfD. Most of the important information has been preserved. The only thing missing is the zone numbers. The table on the chinese page has a different presentation (ordered by zone), and I have not made the format common. Where the station is a KCR West Rail or East Rail station, the articles have been left alone. Ohconfucius 09:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Recent move
[edit]User:Epicgenius recently moved this page from "Light Rail (Hong Kong)" to "MTR Light Rail". But MTR is not part of the proper name. Likewise, the analogous Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line (etc) articles are not titled "MTR Tsuen Wan Line" or "MTR Kwun Tong Line" respectively. Nor is "MTR Light Rail" a WP:COMMONNAME. "Light Rail" is both the proper name and the common name in everyday parlance. Hence I think it should be moved back to either "Light Rail (Hong Kong)", or to "Light Rail (MTR)". Regards, Citobun (talk) 01:52, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Citobun: I think it should be moved to Light Rail (MTR), as all other MTR stations/lines/whatever (Admiralty Station (MTR), Airport Express (MTR), etc.) are disambiguated with "(MTR)" (so it shouldn't be necessary to specify it's in Hong Kong). - I prefer Admiralty Station (Hong Kong) and Airport Express (Hong Kong) for readers with no knowledge of MTR. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 09:23, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think Citobun's analysis is correct (I originally moved the article only because Category:MTR Light Rail gave a more concise title). I personally support moving this to the "(MTR)"-suffix title. While the "(Hong Kong)"-suffix title is also correct, we are disambiguating the Admiralty Station (MTR) and Airport Express (MTR) articles by system, as we do with rapid transit systems of other countries. In addition, "MTR" is a name exclusive to Hong Kong's rapid transit system; one only has to look up "MTR" to know that it's in Hong Kong. Kylo, Rey, & Finn Consortium (talk) 16:00, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

If we move Admiralty Station (MTR) to Admiralty Station (Hong Kong) and Airport Express (MTR) to Airport Express (Hong Kong), we might also have to move these articles as well:
- Aberdeen Station (MTR) to Aberdeen Station (Hong Kong)
- Airport Station (MTR) to Airport Station (Hong Kong)
- Austin Station (MTR) to Austin Station (Hong Kong)
- Central Station (MTR) to Central Station (Hong Kong)
- Exhibition Station (MTR) to Exhibition Station (Hong Kong)
- Island Line (MTR) to Island Line (Hong Kong)
Kowloon Station (MTR) to Kowloon Station (Hong Kong)"MTR" is needed as disambiguator here- MTR Light Rail Route 505 to Hong Kong Light Rail Route 505
- MTR Light Rail Route 705/706 to Hong Kong Light Rail Route 705/706
- Prince Edward Station (MTR) to Price Edward Station (Hong Kong)
- Racecourse Station (MTR) to Racecourse Station (Hong Kong)
- Science Park Station (MTR) to Science Park Station (Hong Kong)
- University Station (MTR) to University Station (Hong Kong)

The result of the move request was: Moved. (closed by non-admin page mover) What's in your palette? Paine 11:31, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
MTR Light Rail → Light Rail (MTR) – Page name from 2007 to 2012; all page moves so far have been uncontroversial and not discussed. Per the discussion in the section above, "MTR Light Rail" is not a common name; the system is usually just called the "Light Rail".
Additionally, as with most other transit systems, "(MTR)" is the disambiguator of Wikipedia articles on the MTR's stations (e.g. Central Station (MTR); Airport Station (MTR)) and lines (e.g. Airport Express (MTR)); and not "(Hong Kong)", as this page was named from 2013 (it was moved by me, not knowing that WP:REQMOVE existed, from Hong Kong Light Rail) until this week.

- Rename, as nominator: Jc86035 (talk • contribs) Use {{re|Jc86035}} to reply to me 13:45, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support because "Light Rail" is actually the real name, "MTR" is just the disambiguator. Kylo, Rey, & Finn Consortium (talk) 13:49, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- Rename but differently: All articles with "(MTR)" as disambiguator should use "(Hong Kong)" instead unless there exists another article of namesake with disambiguator "(Hong Kong)". "(MTR)" is too specific for most non-Hong Kong residents to comprehend. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 14:03, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Sameboat: Cf. other transit systems, which aren't disambiguated using the city name: Bethnal Green tube station (London); Chinatown MRT Station (Singapore); Red Line (CTA) (Chicago); Copley (MBTA station) (Boston); 61st Street – Woodside (IRT Flushing Line) (New York); University (Metrorail station) (Miami-Dade County); Union Station (WMATA station) (Washington DC); Granville station (TransLink) (Vancouver). Jc86035 (talk • contribs) Use {{re|Jc86035}} to reply to me 14:56, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Jc86035: Some of these are justifiable but others don't. There are 2 separate Bethal Green stations which indeed require disambiguation by system (Underground and National Rail). Other tube stations without necessity of disambiguation (e.g. Camden Town tube station) are barely justifiable because they are called this way colloquially. But such practice never becomes popular in Hong Kong for any MTR station. When we say "station" (either English or Chinese) it mostly refers to the MTR station, hence we jump 1 layer deeper of disambiguation when distinguished by "Hong Kong" is equally effective but clearer to most readers because the term/phrase "Hong Kong" is obviously more well-known than "MTR". This applies to disambiguated Metrorail stations in which "Florida" is effective as an disambiguator as well.
- "Red Line (CTA)" is okay because "red line" is in the grey area of common noun and proper noun. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 00:42, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Sameboat: On the other hand, it might seem a little odd to the reader to have everything except Kowloon Station with the "(Hong Kong)" disambiguator (because of the name conflict with the former KCR station). Jc86035 (talk • contribs) Use {{re|Jc86035}} to reply to me 14:29, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- MTR stations which require disambiguation are really not that much (8 existing ones of 87). Consistency is not a good argument when it comes down to disambiguation qualifier. For instance, Moscow Metro has Komsomolskaya (Sokolnicheskaya Line), Komsomolskaya (Koltsevaya Line) and Aleksandrovsky Sad (Moscow Metro). -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 15:03, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Sameboat: The custom in Moscow Metro is to just use the name of the station with no disambiguator at all, such as Troparyovo or Yugo-Zapadnaya. (Unfortunately, we can't do that for Hong Kong because many stations share names with surrounding landmarks or areas.) Kylo, Rey, & Finn Consortium (talk) 00:24, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
