Old 2004 & 2005 posts

[edit]

This is in serious need of content!

I know, I know. If you read my comment when I put in the text thats here I said I was too tired to continue and would finish it later. Kiand 15:10, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be moved to Irish pirate radio? -- Itai 00:59, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)

True. I'm on it. JOHN COLLISON | [[[User talk:Ludraman|L]]udraman] 11:49, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)

The xfm in dublin is NOT the same as in London and what about Radioactive eh?

Yes but they were around before Xfm in London started. As for "what about Radioactive eh?" What about any of the hundreds of other pirate stations ?. Radioactve may have been original and different but had little influence on the development of Irish radio from a historical standpoint !

Like a lot of other irish articles this is the start of a serious, interesting article, now do yourselfs a favour and seek publicity, makesure something that a link is placed to it on other pages for instance Communications in Ireland, History of Ireland, List of Ireland-related topics - too many irish articles have few links to them, if any!

I was going to turn XFM into a link, since there is an article for it, but I found that XFM was already surrounded by double-brackets. Is there a bug in the Wiki? Q

Never mind. I went back to the page and the link was working. Strange. Q

Were fm104 and 98fm originally pirate stations?--Richy 23:31, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can remember, no and no. [radiowaves.fm] will tell you when its up, but it seems to be down tonight. Both are, from my memory, among the batch of totally new legit stations that came out for licences although most of their staff have been involved in prate radio in the past
Q102 is the only one thats even close to having been pirate at any stage, and thats only because they'd adopted the history of the original Q102. Kiand 23:39, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Er what about Phantom ? Some of the original people behind FM104 had some links to the old Q102 pirate but FM104 couldnt realistically be considered a successor to Q. Outside of Dublin some of the licensed ILR stations had more direct links to pre-1989 predecessors. 86.112.50.97 (talk) 13:53, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pirate Stations in Limerick

[edit]

There still seems to be regular pirate stations here, even after 2002. RLO (Radio Limerick One) is still broadcasting at around 105MHz, and I've never seen that go away - I didn't even know it was pirate until looking it up here today! --Zilog Jones 21:17, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RLO were originally a licenced station but after they lost their licence they coninued broadcasting anyway

Dropped link??

[edit]

What was the reason for reverting the bot link today? ja: :アイルランドの海賊放送 simply goes to the Japanese version of this page. JXM 05:51, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - my mistake. I have replaced the link and vowed never to edit Wikipedia without first having my coffee. Markcoffey 11:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Restructuring

[edit]

I've done a bit of a restructuring today, any comments - just go ahead and change it... --Kiand 17:02, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old tags (2015)

[edit]

The article has multiple tags dating back to 2009 but little/no discussion regarding them here. The article has had numerous edits since then. So is it time to remove the tags and if not which should be kept and why ? Netgeek-UK (talk) 10:34, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I really think all the tags are still very valid. Do you know this topic and do you have sources? ww2censor (talk) 22:29, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Waterford and Galway sections

[edit]

The article comes across like it was cribbed from various press releases (particularly in the Galway and Waterford sections) with a lot of trivia and lists of DJ names -of questionable notability. I've done some work on it but it could do with a lot more. 86.146.222.51 (talk) 19:34, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kiss FM (Dundalk)

[edit]

This entry contradicts itself stating that the station continued under various guises as such until the present day but was taken off air in 2010 and has not returned It also claims the station launched in November 1998 but its been around since at least the mid 1990's. 86.146.222.51 (talk) 20:10, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So many Kiss FM's (Cork)

[edit]

The Cork "since 2000" section mentions a "Kiss FM" but doesn't make it clear if its the same station as broadcast during the late 1990's. The references to the station going on and off and on again (on various frequencies) reads like an "Anorak" news magazine and is of questionable relevance to a Wikipedia article. 86.146.222.51 (talk) 20:10, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Most hardline anti-pirate stance in Europe ?

[edit]

In the opening paragraphs its suggested that the level of enforcement in Ireland is particularly draconian with dubious statements like A recent government crackdown now means Ireland has one of the most hardline anti-pirate policies in Europe, and few major stations survive Anyone who has been involved in pirate radio in someplace like London (where many stations experience raids on a weekly basis) would find this suggestion laughable. There is one station in County Monaghan which was operated continuously since 1987 and has only experienced one raid. Many other stations have operated without any harassment from COMREG at all. While the "black Tuesday" raids were an enormous shock to the free radio community these took place over a decade ago and their significance should not be exaggerated. 86.146.222.51 (talk) 19:47, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Television

[edit]

Shouldn't the article give a brief mention to pirate television -Both stations in their own right and relays of UK television signal via UHF "deflectors" and unlicenced cable systems ? 86.146.222.51 (talk) 19:47, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article is about pirate radio but no harm mentioning that a small number of stations made brief attempts to branch into television. As for deflectors there are articles about South Coast Television and Tom Gildea 81.132.143.127 (talk) 22:03, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Long overdue clear out

[edit]

I've removed a large amount of this article. The problems with it have been long indicated by tags;

  • Masses of unsourced content, some of it of questionable accuracy
  • Unattributed opinions
  • What was very likely original research
  • Non neutral content
  • Detail ill-suited to such a broad topic

As such, it read very much like a personal essay by one editor reflecting on their experience and knowledge of the subject. All great stuff, but Wikipedia is not the place to publish it, and all completely unverifiable.

No doubt I've removed some stuff in the process that could have been retained and sourced, but since nothing has been done to fix this article in years and years, it was time for action. Feel free to restore anything that can be properly sourced. Escape Orbit (Talk) 19:23, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
