Gesellschaft and Gemeinschaft are terms used by sociologists to denote specific concepts and, in practice, are not translated. I'll create pages for them soon.

There exists already Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft. -- €pa 20:01, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"In English his name is often spelt without umlauts as Ferdinand Toennies"

There's only one umlaut. It's not so much English as when the character is not available (ie in German too in, say, a telegram) - Pepper 150.203.227.130 04:03, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rating

[edit]

Tönnies is important, the lemma is well fed. -- €pa 16:19, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been checked against the following criteria for B-Class status:

1. Referencing and citation: It is suitably referenced, but not all major points are appropriately cited. (But, are German quotations really necessary?) 2. Coverage and accuracy: It covers the topic very well, nor does it contain major omissions or inaccuracies. 3. Structure: It has a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content. 4. Grammar: It is free from major grammatical errors. 5. Supporting materials: It does not contain appropriate supporting materials, such as images; an infobox or diagrams are not of any use.

B-Class-1=(no) |B-Class-2=yes! - much above the B level. |B-Class-3=yes |B-Class-4=yes |B-Class-5=(no)

Quoting

[edit]

I think it would be appropriate to rewrite parts of this article as it contains a paragraph that borrows too much of this article: http://www.cas.sc.edu/socy/faculty/deflem/zToennies.html

At least I would include the reference. The similarities, phrasing and structure are too much alike not to reference the works of Professor Mathieu Deflem who published the same information on Tonnies in the Routledge encyclopedia of philosophy (2001). Elodrai 07:26, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which paragraph do you think of? Greetings -- €pa 18:53, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Examples

[edit]

What are some examples of Gesellschaft? It mentions some examples of the other kind (family, neighborhoods).

(Feel free to delete or cross out this part of the discussion page if you add examples to the article)

I added some examples.-- €pa (talk) 03:21, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
