The result of the debate was - kept
Patent nonsense. There is no Karafuto Prefecture in Japan. I wasn't sure if this was speedy material. If I was completely sure, I'd do it. Mike H 03:00, Oct 5, 2004 (UTC)

Redirect to Gundam. Karafuto is the Japanese name for Sakhalin,and this is part of a fictitious history. Dangerously misleading as is, but would be a useful redirect IMO.Andrewa 06:50, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)- comment: until 1945 the southern half of Sakhalin was Japanese territory, and although now Russian and not actively claimed by Japan (unlike the Kurile Islands), Japan has IIRC also never said it has rescinded all claims. On some maps (even recent ones) one can still see markings which imply an unclear status. This looks like someone with revisionist (?) tendencies posting their desired situation as fact; note that this article is also linked from the list of provinces in Japan. There's a possible article waiting to be written on Karafuto (along the lines of "History of ..." though - I'd love to write it but won't have time during the 5 VfD days. Probably the best bet would be to redirect to Sakhalin .Do not redirect to Gundam, this is real-world stuff for a change ;-).--Ianb 07:51, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Keep (change of vote). I wasn't aware that there was something in real history that could go by this name too. Agree that the redirect I proposed is inappropriate. Now a reasonable article and steadily improving. Andrewa 12:58, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

- Merge with Sakhalin - the article is about the area rather than administration of the locality. Reading Talk:Karafuto Prefecture, I had thought this should be moved to Karafuto but looking at where that redirects changed my opinion. Earlier use of present tense in the article, repeated at list of cities in Karafuto suggests this article and title may have been designed not to be NPOV. --Henrygb 00:57, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)
