- 1906 – The first part of Jingzhang railway, linking Beijing and Zhangjiakou in China, opens for service.
- 1916 – Construction is completed on the Hell Gate Bridge (pictured) in New York City.
- 1967 – The Monon Railroad ceases all passenger train operations.
- 2003 – Tobu Railway, in Japan, ends freight operations to concentrate on passenger train operations.
