[edit]Could this article be better at List of Australasian birds? -- Zoe
Official
[edit]On the Birds of Australia article it says that this is an "offical list". Who was this list compiled by?--Peta 06:09, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Official in the sense that it is not the Birds Australia unofficial working list... The source list was originally compiled for HANZAB, the pre-eminent scientific reference on Australian Birds (seven volumes published between 1991 and 2006). The current HANZAB list is maintained by Birds Australia, the peak Australian NGO, and includes subsequent revisions. --Glen Fergus 01:26, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
There should probably be a referece to that somewhere on the page.--Peta 00:56, 31 July 2006 (UTC)- I see you have added that.--Peta 00:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Move?
[edit]"Australasian" is an ill-defined term, implying some asian content (perhaps PNG, Indonesia) that isn't there. Perhaps "List of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic birds"? Long-winded, but accurate. --Glen Fergus 22:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Polbot
[edit]Think I've tidied all the Polbot naming glitches now. Let me know if I've missed any.--Gergyl 09:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Lacking New Guinea
[edit]Much needed is a List of birds of New Guinea, which could stand alone or, preferably, be added to this list. Apart from its intrinsic value, this would make sense of the redirected term 'List of birds of Australasia'. It would be important to include the whole island of New Guinea, not its political segments, because (obviously) living things occupy geographical areas. The relevance of lists of fauna of Australasia is that these land masses were part of old Gondwana, and of central interest to geographical distribution and evolution. Where is the "Red-billed Gull" (Larus scopulinius)? Per Falla, Sibson & Turbott (Birds of New Zealand: Collins Field Guide, 1996), the Red-billed Gull is one of the three common gulls in NZ. It may be closely related to the Silver Gull (Larus novaehollandiae), but I suggest that it be listed separately. Ivanjeselo (talk) 23:08, 4 March 2009 (UTC) |
