Definite articles at the beginning of a page name

- Apropos institutions, can we have a policy about whether have have a prepended The or not. e.g. Institution of Structural Engineers versus The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland - which is right. The IStructE website calls the Institution The Institution of Structural Engineers
- I don't know what the naming convention is, but I would imagine whatever the organisation is officially registered as would be the correct nme. - This strikes me as more properly taking place in Wikipedia:Naming_Conventions, but for what it's worth I'd be inclined to follow what seems to be the practice in written encyclopaedias and telephone directories and to disregard 'the' for indexing purposes. This has the major advantage of preventing a massive group if entries under 'the' in an alphabetical list. Arguably this is less important in Wikipedia but I'd say its a convention we needn't disregard, and anyway, there's nothing to stop someone who feels strongly from making redirect pages with 'The' on them; or indeed without. Biography requests
[edit]- I've added Gordon Burn to the requests list because the lesser-known Gordon Burns (the "Krypton Factor" presenter, who might be better classified as a television presenter) is also in the British journalists section, and is apt to be confused with him.

[edit]An item in The Guardian's media column of Friday January 19 itemizes those national newspaper editors who do not have an article on Wikipedia. I have added them ro the list under 'Writers and journalists'. Who's Who will feature them, so we ought to as well. Philip Cross 11:20, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
