"History of Irish art"?

[edit]

This page would maybe be better titled "History of Irish art" as that is what it discusses. A shorter page that links together this history and other Irish art topics may serve better, or maybe an expansion of this page and some of the material removed over the years, to create a structure more like that of the article Scottish art. Thoughts? Turtlecrown (talk) 21:42, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish and Scottish articles don't seem that different, but the Scottish one is much more developed. What "other Irish art topics" do you mean? Also what "some of the material removed over the years" did you have in mind? Reviewing the edit history since 2010, there seems to have been slow and steady growth. If the page is about "Irish art" and not about "History of Irish art" it is missing a lead section which defines the article's subject. A basic definition was removed here in 2004 and never replaced. In the current lead, nothing in the last 100 years is mentioned. There was also a section called "Public galleries" which was removed in 2005 and placed in this list: Art galleries, centres and collections in Ireland but was not replaced with a prose summary and no link now exists between the two pages. Not that this specifically needs to be a section, but overviews of topics such as institutions, media or movements could be good that are separate from (or integrated into) the historical timeline structure (some examples can be seen at Welsh art). On that topic, thanks for your latest improvements! I feel like this is a good history page as it stands, and it could ultimately end up being detrimental to start messing with the structure to add in missing elements to make it more general, which is why I was wondering about a rename.
