I do hope that his Holiness Benedict XVI will follow the pastoral example of his predecessor Popes John Paul I and John Paul II and live up to his description of himself as a simple and humble laborer in the vineyard of the Lord and not have himself crowned. This page was wrongly named. It is not a Papal installation - it could not be. A pope is installed the moment he accepts the papal throne. It is actually a papal inauguration and marks the symbolic inauguration of his papacy. Some inaugurations (eg, in the US and Ireland) may be installations, but many aren't. But an installation by definition involves the official entry into office of an office-holder. That is not the case with popes. Their inauguration, like the coronation, is symbolic.

Personally, I am sorry that the use of the papal tiara has not been reinstated. I found the last two inaugurations mindnumbingly dull and so 1970s tacky. The loss of ritual and ceremonial has been one of the biggest mistakes in Roman Catholicism, and is one of the main reasons why churches are emptying, as the modern Mass usually has all the beauty of a shopping list. I am not saying go back to the old ceremonies, but surely there is something better than 1970s tat. FearÉIREANN 21:53, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Articles I've been reading indicate that the ceremony has been modified significantly this time around,we'll see how you like this one.(There has not,at any rate,been any addition of an oath to exterminate Irish homosexual historians).Twelve representatives of the whole church are chosen to pay homage,rather than all the Cardinals,for instance.--Louis E./le@put.com/le@put.com

Close to being nominated for a "good article"

I see this article as having real good potential to be being nominated as a "Good Article". It does have a slight POV tint that a little rewording could make more neutral and I would certainly recommend doing more with the history section. Excess detail overlapping Papal tiara

I'd think the details on who and when weared the papal tiara would belong in its own page, especially since the mention bloats the head of the article, and there is already a separate article detailing what the whole tiara affair is about. Orphaned references in Papal inauguration

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Papal inauguration's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
