The Carolina Chickadee (Peocile carolinesis)
The Carolina Chickadee is usually 4.25 inches from beak to tail with a black "crown" and throat, and a white face. They usually weigh only a couple of ounces.
The Carolina Chickadee and The Black Capped Chickadee are very similar. One of the main distinctions are there songs. The Black Capped Chickadee has a two note song, while the Carolina Chickadee has a four note song. Also its feathers on its folded wings show less edging than The Black Capped Chickadee.
Its main defense is camoflage. Its black and white colors blend into its surroundings. The Carolina Chickadee has a diet of mostly insects, seeds, and fruit. They are also common "feeder" birds. The Carolina Chickadee is found mostly in the woodlands and are found throughout the southeastern United States.
The Carolina Chickadee lays 6 to 8 white eggs and is in incubation for 11 to 12 days. They then fledge for 13 to 17 days.
